Rotary members and program participants work together to improve lives in communities around the world every day through thousands of community service projects.
The International Work Group of Stittsville Rotary has financially assisted service projects of the Rotary Club of Chapala Sunrise in Mexico over the past few years. Chapala Sunrise member Barb Wilson is seen in the photo above in connection with a clean water and sanitation project that made a significant difference to the lives of approximately 350 people in a rural village where clean water is now available in each household. Our Chapala Sunrise partner has just begun work on a major project with support from Rotary International, providing a wetlands sanitation system for this same indigenous town.
Barb has attended Stittsville Rotary meetings by zoom to give updates on her club’s community service work. Accessing funds from their international partners and the Rotary global grant program, the 25-30 members of Chapala Sunrise have turned their attention to education where only programs in the primary grades are funded by the government. Provision of scholarships and educational supplies have made it possible for students to attend intermediate and senior classes as well.
In addition, Chapala Sunrise health projects focus on education in the areas of nutrition, dental health and diabetes. www.stittsvillerotary.com
