World Polio Day on Oct 24th highlights the fact that immunization, testing, and surveillance has been effective in ending polio in all but 2 countries: Pakistan and Afghanistan.

There is good news to share on World Polio Day on Oct 24th since the efforts of Rotary International along with such partners as the Bill Gates Foundation have successfully reduced polio cases among children under five by 99.9%. Now just two countries continue to report cases of wild poliovirus: Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Rotarian Lorne Jordan spoke at the Stittsville Rotary meeting of October 20th in an excellent presentation about the polio virus and how it works. Discussion followed and personal experiences with polio were shared. Together, we end polio.
