Guest speaker Natalie Karneef outlined the practice of meditation and the techniques used to achieve a mentally calm and clear state of mind.

Meditation has been practiced since ancient times and it has spread from its origins to other cultures where it is now commonly practiced in private and business life. Meditation may be practiced with the aim of reducing stress, anxiety, depression and pain, as well as increasing peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being. Meditation is under research to define its possible effects on health (psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular).
Natalie suggested checking out reference books and apps for further information. In particular, for an individual who may be interested in learning more, she recommended trying out a free guided mediation on a website where, using audio or video, a coach/teacher will guide you through a 5-minute process, for example, (www.headspace.com/meditation/guided-meditation).
