Making Friends Within Rotary

There is a tradition in Rotary that a new member gives a classification speech. It provides an opportunity for a Rotary member to talk to their peers about their personal and professional interests, their community service, and how these interests and experiences relate to their Rotary membership.

Rotarian David recently gave an informative talk which outlined a chronology from his birth in Morocco to his family’s move to a French-speaking community in Montreal, PQ and his subsequent education and career opportunities in Ontario. His personal story revealed how a strong work ethic, great organizational skills, an ability to develop relationships with people and a willingness to deal with the unknown and take on new challenges combined to create success for David in various roles in the paramedic field and in the legal profession. He concluded his presentation by stating that his overall goal during his career, especially in the legal field and in his position of crown attorney, was “to ensure justice is done on behalf of the people and society”.

The following quote from Jim Stovall, an American writer, describes how important it is to get know one another in a successful Rotary club where team work is crucial: "You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins."
