One great idea leads to another….

On Monday, January 27th 2020, Linda Redekopp was at Landmark Cinemas in Kanata to see a TIFF film sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ottawa-Stittsville. While she was there, she also saw a promotional video for that Rotary Club which mentioned the club’s participation in the Dictionaries4Life project, a literacy and basic education focused Rotary project for Grade 3 students in Ottawa – and a great idea suddenly came to her. As a member of the Mennonite Church that sponsors 25 refugee families in Ottawa, Linda certainly knew some children that could greatly benefit from using these dictionaries!

After the film was over, Linda immediately put her plan into action. She started by talking to the President Charles Mossman of the Stittsville Rotary to see what he could do. In turn, Charles talked to John Lark, a member of the Rotary Club of Ottawa, and found that John’s club was able to donate 10 dictionaries to Ottawa Mennonite Refugee Association. On February 9th, John presented the dictionaries to one refugee families - see the picture above.

This story with a happy ending illustrates how one person with a great idea can make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you, Linda!
