We welcome Pam Denesyk from Mad About Patchwork, who spoke to us about quilts and showed us several of her beautiful works.
Pam is the owner of a Canadian online business for purchasing quilt fabric since 2008, offering quilt fabric by the yard, bundles, pre-cuts, quilt kits and quilt patterns. She recently opened a walk-in store on Huntley Road which includes space for a classroom and 6 part-time staff members now assist customers.
Using quilts to illustrate her talk, Pam described the process of quilting using traditional and more modern methods. Social media has transformed the quilting process as quilters world-wide now share photos, methods and projects. Tools have been developed to assist in cutting fabric and quilting (i.e. sewing the fabric layers together) can be done on a long-arm computerized sewing machine. Quilt guilds exist in many local communities and national and international guilds promote competition among their members.
