Stittsville Land Keepers is a new group with an environmental focus has recently been organized in Stittsville by Jessie Lozanski. A writer, conservationist, and artist, Jessie currently works for the Peace and Environment News and the Canadian Wildlife Federation. She spoke to Stittsville Rotarians on January 12, 2022 about this new initiative that is supported by 12 to 15 members. It focuses on the conservation of Stittsville’s natural spaces including Goulborn Wetlands (see Jessie’s photo above), Kemp Woodland and Poole Creek. Land Keepers is dedicated to nature education, conservation projects, and the protection of Stittsville's most important ecosystems. A great example of such educational resources is the Jessie’s recently published go-to guide on the ecosystems of Stittsville entitled ‘Wild Stittsville - A Guide To Our Ecosystems and How We Can Re-Wild Our Community’
Jessie stated that Land Keeper’s future may include such education-based projects as the development of a pollinator garden in a city park, expansion of a trail system and clean-ups which will benefit from the addition of new members and partnerships with community organizations. For more information, check the SLK facebook group page or send an email to loza.jess@gmail.com to express your interest. Jessie would also love to hear about ideas for conservation projects, partnerships or future events.
