Rob Searle spoke to Rotary about Braden's Law, which focuses on immediate, appropriate treatment of cardiac arrest using a defibrillator in emergency situations in hockey arenas.

Rob Searle spoke about Braden’s Law, a legacy established in the name of his 14 year old son Braden, an active, exceptional athlete who died unexpectedly in his sleep three years ago. It was determined that he had an undiagnosed rare heart condition.
Braden’s Law focuses on immediate, appropriate treatment of cardiac arrest using a defibrillator in emergency situations in hockey arenas. Timing is critical as there is 70% recovery if treatment is received within 3 minutes. Rob, who was also a hockey coach, has developed a 2-hour course in support of Braden’s Law at a cost of $20 per person that he offers to coaches and players in the Ottawa area. It provides training for coaches of players under 15 years and also for players over 15 years of age in how to use a defibrillator in the event of cardiac arrest and potentially save a life. Individuals who have completed the program wear a patch on their jersey and a sticker on their helmet (see picture bottom right).
