Activity: Plant 15 trees and several hundred live stakes along a small tributary to the Conoy Creek.

When: Thursday, March 23, 5-7 PM

Where: Shybrook Ct, Elizabethtown(it’s a small cul-de-sac. We will meet on the street and then walk through the backyard of one of the residents to access the creek.)

What to bring: waders/rain boots/water proof shoes of any type that you have. There will be some dry land activities as well but the most fun will be had if you can get into the stream. The water is only a few inches deep but will be cold. Water bottle. Appropriate clothing for the weather and getting muddy. Work gloves or gardening gloves. All tools will be provided.

What to expect: There will be a few trees to plant. They will be in small containers and will be planted in tree tubes with stakes. Live staking is the act of taking cuttings (branches) of trees or shrubs and sticking them into the streambank where they will grow roots and eventually be a new plant. Volunteers will use rebar to create a pilot hole and then stick a live stake into the created hole. It is helpful to work in pairs. Instruction will be provided for all tasks.

Other: The majority of the residents are elderly and they are worried about losing their stream bank. They are very grateful for the help and several residents are planning on attending and helping where they can.
