Her Excellency Nineta Barbulescu and Dan Barbulescu have kindly invited 25 members to join them for morning tea at 1030 on Monday 2 November at the Romanian Embassy 4 Dalman Crescent O'Malley, Woden. Nineta is accredited to New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Nauru. She has made a collection of art and items from her travels to these countries which will be displayed for us. Please RSVP ASAP if you are intending to attend. |

Dr Prashanti Manchikanti is a NT GP who works with remote communities to improve general health. She has been awarded a Rotary Global Grant to study indigenous health overseas but due to COVID has been unable to travel to do so. Prashanti has offered to speak to Rotary Clubs about her work and we are pleased to have the opportunity to learn about her and the needs of her patients.

Senior retired Australian Diplomat John McCarthy AO will address the relationship between Australia, the United States and China after the result of the US Presidential Election is known. John served as Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand, the United States, Indonesia, Japan and High Commissioner to India. He is currently Chair of the Australia-India Institute, Chair of the Advisory Board of the Griffith Asia Institute and Co-Convenor of the Australia-Indonesia Dialogue. He is a former President of the Australian Institute of International Affairs. We are fortunate to have an opportunity to hear from John McCarthy one of the most significant commentators on Australia's future in our region. |

Dr Robert Sacy is a Beirut physician and is deeply engaged in the effort to restore paediatric services to his devastated city. He will be briefing us on what the priorities are and how our funds will be helping. Also joining us for our Zoom meeting will be Sarah Copland the mother of the little Australian boy who lost his life due to the explosion in the Beirut docks. Sarah, now back in Australia, is interested in assisting with Rotary's work in Lebanon. |

Our club has been involved for many of those years with the distribution to those in need in the ACT. On 14th December we hold the Annual General Meeting as required by ACT regulations and will deal with any matters arising from the previously circulated Club Treasurer's report. This will be followed by a Club Assembly. This will also be an opportunity for members not already assigned to a club committee to volunteer to assist with the work of the club. The President and Club Service Director will open the Assembly to a discussion of future meeting arrangements starting in 2021. A decision will be taken which best suit the majority of the membership. This is also an opportunity for members to raise matters that they believe need to be considered as we progress into the new decade. You are strongly encouraged to attend so you can have your views heard and to influence the way ahead for the rest of this Rotary year and provide your vision for our future. |

Dr Jerry Knockles will be inducted into Rotary and will become a member of the RC of Canberra. He will then give a biographical address covering his career in the RAN, as a Ministerial Chief of Staff and a senior managerial role within the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund Australia. His career has been in Public Policy Formulation and advocacy. His current position is Government Relations Manager for World Vision. |

22 March Dr Denis Saunders AM Denis is a Member of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists and is the Chair of the Sara Halvadene Foundation which is working to improve indigenous health in Australia.The philanthropic work of his family's foundation will be the subject of his address to the RC of Canberra. He is a Former Chief Research Scientist, CSIRO Wildlife & Ecology and a Past President, WWF Australia (2006-2011), Councillor, Australian Heritage Council (2004-2009. Denis is the recipient of: 2014 Whitley Award, Special Certificate of Commendation for 2014 from Royal Zoological Society of NSW for “great contribution over many years towards the conservation of Australia’s fauna.

MONDAY 1st MARCH - Dr Alan Ryan is the CEO of the Australian Civil-Military Centre. It was established in 2008 to assist Australian government agencies by developing national civil-military-police capabilities to prevent, prepare for and respond more effectively to conflicts and disasters overseas. It works with government agencies, international counterparts, international organisation, private sector and humanitarian organisations to ensure that the collective efforts of partners in a crisis are more than the sum of their parts. In this address, Dr Alan Ryan, the executive director of the Australian Civil-Military Centre will discuss how government builds multiagency preparedness and capability in advance of disasters and other crises.

Professor Adrian Walter is a talented musician and a former head of the Charles Darwin University of Creative Arts and Humanities and the ANU's School of Music. In 2012 he was appointed Director of the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts. This latter appointment saw him in charge of a multi-disciplinary environment where there was an intersection between Eastern and Western Cultural practice. He has remained active throughout his career an an educator and a performer and presenter of guitar master classes. In 2009 he was awarded an AM for his services to the arts particularly in the area of classical guitar performance and composition through the Darwin International Guitar Festival and to music education.

Wing Commander Sharon Bown completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Tasmania in 1995. She joined the RAAF as a Nursing Officer in 1999. During her service, she served overseas in East Timor and Afghanistan and was the commander of a surgical team deployed to Afghanistan in 2008. In 2004, when working as an aeromedical evacuation nurse she was seriously injured and narrowly escaped death in Timor-Leste when the UN helicopter she was travelling in crashed in a violent storm. Sharon survived a broken back, a shattered jaw, and aviation fuel burns. |

Global Youth Exchange returned students Siobhan West and Theo Hearder have both returned from Germany last year and have very intersting stories to tell of their time in and out of lock down. During their unique experience of GYE they experienced great kindness and hospitalitry from their host families and feel very positive about their experiences. They will illustrate their talks with photos showing where they went and what they did ! After they have spoken H.E the German Ambassador Dr Thomas Fitschen will address us. |

Dr Anna Howe has followed the Royal Commission on Aged Care Quality and Safety from the vantage point of 45 years experience in aged care research and policy. Since completing her PhD at Monash University in Melbourne in 1982, her research has involved major evaluations of many aspects of Australia’s aged care system, including assessment, planning of residential and community care, interaction between acute and long term, financing of aged care and service integrated housing. Her policy work for the Australian Government includes advisor roles to Senate and House of Representatives inquiries and from 1989-1993, she was Director of the Commonwealth Office for the Aged and Principal Policy Advisor of the Mid Term Review of the Aged Care Reform Strategy. |

At 1130 on Monday 24 May Senior Minister Rev David Campbell has kindly invited the club to attend St Andrews Church for a tour of the building including the Warriors chapel and a demostrtion of the organ. A cooked lunch at will be provided by members of the Church. Club Members will pay as usual $35 by card. This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a tour of one of Canberra's most significant heritage buildings and to learn how St Andrews communicates its Christian ministry.
