Always wanted to visit Nuku’alofa Tonga - if you have for two weeks in early 2015 you could visit and help build a workshop for the disabled.

Volunteers are required in Nuku’alofa Tonga for two weeks in early 2015 to help build a workshop for the disabled, with the concrete pad having already been laid.  Skilled carpenters are needed who are familiar with the ‘old ways’ of construction.  The Mango Tree Centre is the only Tongan facility which supports the disabled and is managed by a Korean Couple who have NZ citizenship.  They receive no government support, nor does the government have any facilities to help the disabled.  Currently the Centre supports 200 families, but it is known that up to 2000 families have disabled family members and this building would allow more people in need to receive assistance.  Disabilities include blindness, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries and they are provided with Braille classes, physiotherapy and all manner of other services otherwise unavailable.  For more details, please contact:   Stuart Batty
