Causes We Support

Sault NORTH Rotary is pleased to partner with the Hilton Union Public Library of Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island, in support of a new initiative put forth by Librarian Kim McHale. With funding provided from Sault North Rotary, the Library will expand their Kids programs by making available Exploration Kits which will encourage ‘hands-on learning’ of a variety of themes to pique interests and curiosity.

Fellow Rotarian and retired teacher Frank Greco states this ‘can open doors to career option exploration…’ as well as ‘a shared experience with a family member, friend or in a classroom setting’.

Some examples of the Exploration Kits that will be available soon include:
Explore Music - small instruments, music CDs, music books
Explore Arts & Crafts - a variety of painting and drawing mediums (watercolours, acrylic, chalk, colour pencils)
Explore Birding - binoculars, bird identification books, feeding birds books
Explore Planting – Seeds, Planting medium, Guide books on gardening
Explore Nature - Scrapbook to collect leaves or other nature treasures, Guide books to identify plants, rocks, animal tracks, Scavenger hunt games

 

Kim McHale and Library Board Chair Shirley Pollock were on hand for the presentation from Rotarian Ken Dutchak in the amount of $3,500.00.

 

Kim states “I would like the community to know that this financial support will allow the Library to offer "Exploration Kits" to the youth of our Library Community, that will be both fun-filled and educationally enriching. I hope that this encourages even more Library involvement where children always feel welcome! I look very forward to the feedback from our young patrons on their experiences with the kits and their interests for future expansions.”

 

For over 50 years, Sault North Rotary is dedicated to supporting Youth Development in our area. Funds provided for these programs are raised by the very popular Sault North Rotary Trip of The Month Fundraiser and Nevada Ticket sales. Our community has been very generous in supporting these fundraisers throughout the year, and we look forward to continuing our support for like minded projects.
