SITD 2023 Annual Toy Drive

Once again, it is time to ask for volunteers for our annual Toy Drive, which is under the umbrella of Truckee Community Cares (formerly Truckee Community Christmas) and part of the Toys for Tots National program. I mentioned at this month's meeting that the program needs Box Monitor signups and this is the promised outreach.

Box Monitors:

We have promised that the toy collection boxes will be in place in local businesses by next Wednesday, November 15. You will then be responsible for checking the boxes every week or more frequently as we get nearer to Christmas. It would be great if you left your phone number with the business so they could contact you if the box fills unexpectedly, but only if you are comfortable doing this.

Toys collected can be stored at Lynette Powell's home. Final collection day is Wednesday December 13.

Toy Sort:

Next step will be sorting out toys to types and age groups with some preliminary bagging, probably during the week of December 4 with exact date/times to be determined. All toys will be transferred to the Truckee Recreation and Parks on Wednesday December 13 and everything will be sorted and bagged in labeled bags by the end of Friday December 15 for distribution on Saturday December 16. Many volunteers will be needed to sort and bag toys on December 13 to December 15 at the Rec and Park building. Distribution volunteers for December 16 have been identified— thank you so much.
