The Peace Heroes Walk Around the World is a joint initiative between the 21st Century Peace Literacy Foundation and the Dayton, Ohio Peace Museum. For the first time ever, the walk is being held here in San Diego and they're reaching out to us to be a part of it! You can get involved in a number of ways including: starting your own team, sponsoring a team, donating to the event, or volunteering at the event. Bring all your friends and wear your Rotary t-shirt. This is a great way to promote Rotary and it's goal to foster peace locally and globally, and we hope you can participate!
Peace Heroes Walk Around the World is a joint initiative between the 21st Century Peace Literacy Foundation and the Dayton, Ohio Peace Museum. The walk's mission is twofold: to inspire and educate a new generation of peace leaders and to promote peace literacy through peace hero stories and examination of peace hero ideals. By honoring those who embody peaceful ideals: justice, reconciliation, interconnection and a rejection of
vengeance we hope to create a more peaceful world. This is a great way to promote Rotary and it's goal to foster peace locally and globally.
On Sunday, March 19th students, families, community organizations, religious groups and individuals from all walks of life will gather at Magee Park in Carlsbad, California. Each will come with a story, a hero they are honoring and they will walk in teams with the goal of promoting their peace hero and peace literacy, i.e. those who embody the art of living peaceably and the knowledge and skills required for nonviolent responses to problems and conflicts. All the funds raised from this event will go directly back to local non-profits whose mission is aligned with that of the walk.
You can get involved in a number of ways:
1.) Start a team and select your own Peace Hero to honor. Each team will have the goal of raising $1,000 that will go directly back to local non-profit organizations. Teams can be any size and you can register here: https://ssl.charityweb.net/
2.) Sponsor an existing team. You can join a preexisting Peace Hero team and make a difference by contributing. Click here to view the team roster: https://ssl.charityweb.net/
3.) Make an integral difference by helping us launch the walk in San Diego for the first time ever! By contributing $300 as a sponsor you will help us cover essential start-up costs and ensure the success of the event. 4.) Volunteer! Day of assistance ensures a smooth and successful event and we will need all the help we can get!
