Our club's efforts led to overflow of a collection bin with food and toys to support the partnership of the Chula Vista Elementary School District, the Chula Vista Welfare Council, and Chula Vista Police Activities League (CVPAL) to collect donations of food and toys. CVESD employee Mayela Couturier helped decorate the beautiful bin our club used to collect items. The response from the community and our members was tremendous. First Bank allowed our club to place the bin in its lobby to collect donations from customers and club members. First Bank also donated $400 towards the purchase of food and/or toys to support this cause. A special thanks goes out to First Bank Vice President and Senior Branch Manager Lourdes Valdez. We are so happy to have Lourdes, a charter member, back with our club. She has been so enthusiastic—we all feed off her energy and tireless efforts on behalf of Rotary.

First Bank is also displaying a basket overflowing with wine bottles, holiday-themed items and gift cards. The basket is for our opportunity drawing. For just $20, you can purchase an arm’s length of tickets. The drawing will be held on December 20. The fundraiser helps support our local and international giving, whether support to local food banks or supplies and materials for projects abroad. Please support our efforts by purchasing tickets or helping sell to colleagues and family members.

If you thought all this helping others could be too tiring, so not true! Thanks to Tara Simpson, club members also participated in Operation Christmas Child, which entailed putting together gift-filled shoeboxes for boys and girls in impoverished communities overseas.

And there’s more. Among our projects is Bikes for Kids. This year, because of the pandemic, a large scale bike assembly cannot be held by the Chula Vista Elementary School District. So the Daly Academy, a CVESD school for youth with challenges, asked our club to donate three bicycles for students at the school. Our club unanimously approved the purchase of not only the bikes, but the helmets necessary for students to comply with bike safety guidelines.

Our club members are giving new meaning to #RotaryResponds. Thank you all!
