Each year, the Rotary Club of San Marcos hosts a special luncheon to recognize the middle school students they have sponsored to attend the Leadership, Ethics, Aspirations, and Determination (LEAD) conference at Camp Palomar.
The LEAD conference is an annual leadership and personal development program that has been empowering 8th grade students since 2009. This year, the Rotary Club of San Marcos proudly sponsored 8 students selected from four different schools within the San Marcos Unified School District to attend the LEAD conference.
The Rotary luncheon is always an inspiring and heartwarming event, as each of the student attendees shares their personal experiences and key takeaways from the transformative conference. Many describe it as a life-changing opportunity that has profoundly impacted their outlook and goals. Dr. Andy Johnsen, Superintendent of the San Marcos Unified School District, served as the keynote speaker at this year's luncheon. He eloquently spoke about the crucial role of youth leadership in strengthening our local communities.
