The annual Golf Tournament was held September 11th 2017

September 11th, a day we will never forget.  And what a fitting day to focus on the fellowship of fellow Rotarians and our friends while stepping OUTSIDE the Petaluma Golf Club to frolick in the pastures with our golf clubs!  With the course occupied near capacity with avid golfer, we enjoyed beautiful weather on the verdant, finely manicured golf course we typically only enjoy from the OTHER SIDE of the windows during our Club meetings.

First off, a big tip of the hat to Chad Fillinger and co-chair Charlie Stuart who ran the tournament and dinner to perfection!  Of course great leaders surround themselves with great teams so many of our Rotarians were working behind the scenes to choreograph all the moving pieces (a whopping 16 of us on the golf committee).  Among the many hard workers who demonstrated "service above self" were the dynamic duo - Tawny Tesconi and Maggie Radany, PGA pro and manager Chris Gay, Lombardi's Catering, and many of our Rotarians for their generous wine raffle donations.

On August 14th 2017 a dedicated cadre of Rotarian bike riders left Crescent City California with a common goal,"End Polio Now!"  First, the good news - so far this year there are only eight reported cases of Polio worldwide!  Yet like the deadly small pox epidemic, once there are no more reported cases children yet to be inoculated in high risk areas will still need to be vaccinated for three additional years to be sure it has been eradicated completely (the 7.5 billion world population grows 1.1 percent annually).  Better news - at the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta last month Bill Gates Jr. announced  the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation will continue the 2:1 match, and have INCREASED the match to $50 million (from $35 million) and extended it for 3 years.
Our new club president, Chris Ranney opened his first meeting of the year to a well attended meeting on July 13.  Over 75 members and guests enjoyed a buffet of barbecued steaks, Pedroni's potato salad, green salad, fruit and cheesecake. Everyone was in great spirits looking forward to our leader's inaugural effort.  Of course, the tradition of pranks played on the president during a first meeting continued in fine fashion.
