Coastal Defenders
As November is Native Heritage month, we will have a very special speaker. Coach Jackson (aka Jules Jackson), an Indigenous Water Protector of Nanticoke heritage, serves as the Director of Coastal Defenders, an organization dedicated to training youth to protect coastal ecosystems and engage with ocean conservation activities. She combines her background in youth coaching and mentoring with environmental advocacy to inspire children and young adults from diverse backgrounds to participate in ocean-related activities such as swimming, surfing, and scuba diving.
Coastal Defenders has also been involved in expanding the field of indigenous science, offering more opportunities to youth in STEM-based, career pathways through the Coastal Defenders Guardianship Pathway. Coach Jackson will be speaking about Coastal Defenders and new programs in Indigenous Aquaculture.
