Model United Nations Program

This Tuesday our meeting will focus on our District 5340 Model United Nations Program (MUN) in which we participate. We will hear from the two local high school students we sponsor. You’ll want to be there and support these students, and learn something about how the United Nations functions, including the training our students have received: Peacefully resolve conflicts, reach consensus on international issues, and gain critical tools to becoming peace builders or community leaders.

Also, you’ll see how our students have “become” true ambassadors of a foreign country, and argue the various UN resolutions solely from the perspective of “their” country, uphold the foreign policies of “their” country, even when those policies are in conflict with their own feelings.

Our MUN resolutions usually parallel issues that are currently being addressed by the real United Nations General Assembly Session. One, for our club, is particularly significant – Urgent Action to Protect the Oceans.
