Rebecca Silva, a retired veteran of the US Navy, presented the club with an overview of the history of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Rebecca is a proud member of the local Post 912 and explained how VFW posts are number according to the order in which they were chartered. The organization currently has over 1 million members, with the Baytown post having a membership of approximately 500. The local VFW is still recovering from the $100,000 in damage inflicted by flooding during Hurricane Harvey. The remodel of the building is almost complete and the post has re-opened for its members. The upcoming Turkey Shoot each weekend in October has a goal of replenishing all of the reserves the post expended during the reconstruction, and Rebecca is hoping that this year's event is the largest in history for 912.
