The Kiwanis Club of Baytown was visited by Candace Thomas, Volunteer Outreach Coordinator and Vet Tech with City of Baytown Animal Services. Ms. Thomas shared with us the many things going on at the shelter. First, and foremost, they are a NO KILL SHELTER - meaning animals are not euthanized unless deemed dangerous to the public or injured beyond recovery. Their primary focus points are rescues, fosters and adoptions.

Maybe you have noticed the new facility being built adjacent to the existing shelter on Robert Lanier Dr. The new one is scheduled to be opened by April 2022 and will be almost 4 times larger than the existing facility which is inadequate in kennel space, parking and administrative offices. The new shelter includes plans for 63 dog kennels, 78 cat kennels, pre-adoption visitation rooms, full time veterinarian and plenty of room to grow.

Now, and in the future, volunteers are needed, along with foster caretakers. If you are interested in spending even a couple of hours per week at the shelter, caring for a foster animal or with social communications, please reach out to Candace by phone at (281) 422-7600, their location at 705 N Robert Lanier Dr, or on Facebook @baytownanimalservices.
