Robert Francis, a retired math teacher from Sterling High School, presented an historical overview of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the January 9 regular meeting of the Baytown Kiwanis Club. Robert covered the history from its first show in 1932 as the Houston Fat Stock Show and Livestock Exhibition at the Sam Houston Hall to its current site in NRG stadium as the HSLR. In between, the show was held at the Sam Houston Coliseum for 28 years and the Astrodome for 36 years. The HSLR has become Houston's signature event, setting attendance records along the way that make it the highest-attended single event in the Space City. Thanks Robert for sharing the unique history of this Houston icon!
