Dr. Ruth Edwards presented an overview of the "Be Well Baytown" project set to kick-off in the Baytown community on September 24. "Be Well Baytown" is a $10 million initiative (made possible through a grant from ExxonMobil) that is designed to change citizens' lifestyles in order to prevent cancer from developing and to enhance early detection of cancer to treat and cure the disease in its early stages. The project is a partnership between Houston San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, Goose Creek CISD, the United Way of Greater Baytown, and the YMCA of Greater Houston. Also attending Thursday's meeting of the Kiwanis Club were Methodist Hospital CEO Dr. David Bernard and GCCISD superintendent of schools Randall O'Brien, as well as other members of the "Be Well Baytown" initiative. Representing ExxonMobil at the presentation was Kiwanis member Connie Tilton.
