The Appleton-Fox Cities Kiwanis was honored was honored by local American Legion Auxiliary Unit 38-Appleton for its long-running support for the Badger Girls State Citizenship Training Program.
Local Unit Girls State Chairman Rose Heinz, a Kiwanian herself, presented the official certificate of appreciation to Appleton-Fox Cities Kiwanis President Anthony Snyder at the July 21 meeting.

Kiwanis has long been a supporter of Badger Girls State, donating hundreds of dollars to allow a female student from an Appleton High School between her Junior and Senior year to attend the week-long training camp. The 2017 event was held June 18-23 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
The Girls State program was organized in 1937 as a national Americanism activity. Organizers strive to provide a non-partisan, non-political educational experience focused on leadership, American traditions, understanding of government and a celebration of democratic government processes.
High school girls from all over the state participate, with one being elected Governor for the week.

A little known fact, current Appleton-Fox Cities Kiwanis President Anthony Snyder, an Ohio native, represented his high school in 1987 at Buckeye Boys State. While he does not rule out a run for politics at some point, his role as Kiwanis President remains his highest office thus far.
