We have a quick service project this week for those who can attend.  We are looking to set up three (3) 4x8 Garden Boxes at the Community Early Learning Center (CELC) on Thursday, May 31st from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.

This service project will include moving 3 yards of garden soil from a trailer to the boxes, and planting various vegetable plants/seeds.

The CELC houses several programs that serve young children 3-5 years old.  The garden beds will be used to teach kids how healthy food is grown and they will be able to harvest it as it grows and ripens.  The center houses the AASD Birth-Five Outreach program, Bridges Child Enrichment Center, UW Oshkosh Head Start, and Birth to 3-Special Needs Programs.

We need 5-6 volunteers that can move/shovel the garden soil into the boxes, and 1-2 “experienced” gardeners that can plant tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, lettuce, and other vegetables.  Bring shovels and rakes.  1-2 wheel barrels also needed.

Sign-up:  Sign-up online or contact Jim Pierce directly at 428-0876 or deanjp@msn.com.  In the event of questionable weather, contact Jim on his cell phone to confirm  the project is taking place.

Remember what our Kiwanis shirts say, “Kids Need Kiwanis.”  This is one of the few projects that we do for very young children, so please consider helping out.
