The Adventure in Citizenship program is a unique opportunity for a select group of young Canadians to come together and gain a better understanding of our country. The program is open to students ages 16* - 18 with excellent potential to become community leaders. AIC is completely administered by the Rotary Club of Ottawa, with each participating student sponsored by a local Rotary Club. The sponsoring club pays for the registration fee and travel costs. The Rotary Club of Ottawa is responsible for accommodation, meals, transport during the program in the national capital. Host families provide bed and breakfasts and ensures that students are transported to and from the program daily. Visit the following link for more information about the AIC program:

The program is held in late April or early May in Ottawa. 
The Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Charleswood sponsors one student from Winnipeg (or nearby rural) aged 16-18 years to attend the Adventure In Citizenship program.  Students may apply by sending an email to with letter of interest and bio highlighting academic standing, leadership ability and community service. The deadline for letters of interest and bio will be confirmed in early 2021.  This may be followed by an interview by several Rotarians. The interviews and selection will be finalized in late February.
The Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Charleswood coordinates the selection of a student, air travel to Ottawa and maintains communication/ coordination with the student and the Rotary Club of Ottawa. 
The Rotary Club of Ottawa asks selected students for a short essay (approx. 250 words) or a 30-90 second creative video on “What does being a Canadian citizen mean to you? “The statement or video judged to be the best will be recognized and published on The Rotary Club of Ottawa website and, if time permits, the students will be asked to present their submission at the AIC closing luncheon. Upon return to Winnipeg, the student is invited to attend a meeting of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Charleswood to speak about his/ her experience. 
Final note: Participants in the AIC are eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship from the Young Citizenship Foundation. A link is found on the AIC website (link above).
