The meeting was opened by President Mandy Kwasnica with a solid bell toll. O Canada and a moment of silent thought followed. Sarge Mike Dudar was absent tonight, so Lyle Miller took on the Sarge duties for the evening. Our guests were announced by Acting Sarge Lyle – Madeline and Lloyd Coopsammy.
Rotary Moments
President Mandy reported on the club board meeting that was held earlier tonight.
1. Meeting Confirmations- please ensure that you attend a meeting if you have confirmed for it online. The club must pay for all meals confirmed by Saturday morning. If you must cancel a confirmation, please do so prior to Saturday morning. Our club does not want to resort to charging for no shows. Recently 5 members and/or guests did not show for a meeting; the club had to pay $100 for meals not eaten. Also…please do not let this announcement make you decide to not register for meetings due to uncertainty as the meal deadline approaches.
2. Club brochures are in the process of being updated. Pictures and written copy are both being updated. This is the material given to guests / speakers to advise them of what our club is doing now locally / internationally.
3. Board is looking into recording our meetings / guest presentations. This would then be posted on the website for review.
4. A couple of club positions remain to be filled for 2020 / 2021. We require a President-Elect (2021/2022) as well as a Public Relations (P.R.) Lead. P.R. includes most online promotion activities ie. Facebook. Please contact President Mandy or President-Elect Doug if you are interested in either position.
President-elect Doug McKenzie announced that Elaine Thompson has volunteered to take on the ‘meeting scribe’ position for the 2020/2021 club year.
President Mandy reminded all of the event being organized by Jack Wilson at Breezy Bend for our March 30th, 2020 meeting. This will be a very casual evening of fellowship with pizza & wings for food as well as various games. Hopefully we will have access to the golf simulator at Breezy Bend. Spouses and other guests are very welcome to attend (as they always are!). This is designed as an event to expose others to the culture of Rotary.
President Mandy was advised (a little late) about Urban Stable holding a fundraising event on March 13, 2020. This is a ‘Bud – Spud – Chicken’ event at Canad Inns Polo Park. The stated deadline to purchase tickets ($25 or support Tx for $10) was last Friday. If you wish to attend or support, please contact
hayley@urbanstable.ca
Jim Forestell announced the next LobsterFest committee meeting is scheduled for next Monday prior to the regular club meeting. Start time is 4:30pm. at Breezy Bend. The issue with Covid-19 will be taken day by day, week by week.
President Mandy asked those present if they were all comfortable with the concept of only greeting each other in a non-skin contact form, such as the elbow or fist bump? The group present agreed to the measure being adopted – no handshakes for the time being due to Covid-19. Acting Sarge Lyle was greeting all tonight in this fashion…the ‘chicken wing’ touch (elbows).
Elaine Thompson wanted to confirm and state that the March 30th meeting (Games Night) will be a night of fellowship and show the culture of the club. No Rotary business will take place that evening.
Iain Scott will be away for a holiday soon but will be doing a ‘Police line-up’ tomorrow. This is regarding the assault that he endured recently by a road rage driver on Corydon Ave. Hopefully this will result in charges against the perpetrator.
Ed Thompson reminded everyone to please designate your ‘Rotary alternate’ on the form provided. This will allow that person to attend meetings when you are not able to, after an initial club meeting visit with you.
Paul Brault advised that most Rotarians now have their Lobsterfest tickets to sell. Please ensure that you complete the Purchaser portion of the ticket stub for identification purposes. This is in case the event must be cancelled or rescheduled to a later date.
President Mandy advised that the club is sponsoring two students attending Adventures in Citizenship taking place in Ottawa April 26 -29, 2020.
