Meeting Report

President Mandy Kwasnica opened the meeting tonight to a full room of Rotarians in the south dining room at Breezy Bend. She called on Dave Morris to hit the opening note of O Canada and Rotary Grace then handed the meeting over to the Sarge. S.A.A. Mike Dudar was present tonight to carry out his duties for us. We had no guests tonight as the speaker was scheduled to be our own President, Mandy Kwasnica.

Rotary Moments

President Mandy advised that the ‘Goose Chase’ is booked to take place on Saturday September 14, 2019. The start time will be 3:30pm at Breezy Bend. Please be on time and bring your potluck dish to give to President Mandy at the start time/ Breezy Bend. An e-mail will be sent out to indicate what type of dish you should bring in order to provide a well-rounded table of options at the dinner (at finish line / President Mandy’s home). Please note that there will not be a meeting on Sept. 2 & 9, 2019. The ‘Goose Chase’ car rally will take place with-out any further meetings before it is initiated on the 14th of September. This will be the final reminder of the rally before it takes place.

President Mandy, Jim Forestell & Gord Zacharias reminded all present that the inaugural golf tournament will take place at Breezy Bend on Sept. 9th, 2019. Volunteer positions will be emailed out to everyone shortly. A BBQ lunch will be provided for volunteers. The dinner meal is $25 and will not be covered by the tournament. However, Jim Forestell suggested that the Charleswood Rotary Club pay the meal costs for those volunteers working the last shift (3:00 to 6:00) and present at 6:00pm when the tournament ends. This was agreed to by those present.

Gord Zacharias wanted to make sure that all the Rotary volunteer vests be made available for the golf tournament volunteers. President Mandy has the vests and will bring them to the cheque presentation meeting at S.T.A.R.S. on Wednesday. There should be 25 to 30 vests. Some were used at Rib Fest on this past weekend.

President Mandy, Jim Forestell & Elaine Thompson will be presenting a support cheque to S.T.A.R.S. on Wednesday, Aug 28, 2019. These are the funds raised at the 2019 District Conference.

Sarges Corner
Happy Bucks

  • Jack Wilson was pleased and happy for all involved in the home purchase by Isadora and Gabriel. John Inglis was acting as their agent in the house hunt and purchase.
  • Dave Morris was happy to hear about beer bottles and cans just being talked about!
  • Elaine Thompson had a great time with the grand kids over the past week at the Morden Corn and Apple Festival. I must suspect that Ed was along for the ride as well and had just as much fun.
  • Jim Forestell was willing to place a happy buck into the pot as long as he got his change that he was waiting for. He was also very pleased that ~ 80 golfers will be taking part in the golf tournament. Prizes are in, volunteers are arranged and next week the assignments will be sent out via email.
  • Nancy Hansen was happy that she didn’t kick Mike in the shin this week when she was transferring in and out of Mike’s truck.
  • Ed Thompson was also willing to leave a dollar in the happy buck pot as he had not received his change from the Sarge.
  • Brian Campbell was busy being the Best Man at a very good friends wedding on Saturday. They also went to Rainbow Stage, with a grandson, to see Cinderella. They almost drowned during the performance due to the heavy rains, but the performance was wonderful.
  • President Mandy was actually happy about the recent rains. They planted 100 trees on their property and had been watering them for about 2 hours each and every week since then to keep them alive. Some were lost due to the drought-like weather, but the rain will help.

50/50

Sarge Mike asked Ed Thompson to pull the ticket stub tonight. Number 976 came out of the pot. This matched up with the ticket held by Nancy Hansen. Her attempt at the blue marble failed tonight. The cash payout grows once more.

Fines

None tonight as we all behaved.
