Happy Bucks
- Rod Delisle had a couple items to be happy and displeased about this week. He split the donation down to 50 cents each. The first was disappointment that he was unable to visit his brother in Alberta on the weekend as planned due to the heavy snowfall we all experienced. Rod was happy about playing his first curling game of the season, but his knees were not so happy after the match. Another enjoyable moment to mention was a visit to Kevin’s Bistro (all Mac & Cheese dishes) where all the food was great, and he crossed paths with Paul and Catherine at the bistro. Rod also got to attend the Jet’s game (on the first of the tickets he won at the golf tournament) and they Won!
- Darvin Jasper had a wonderful time celebrating Sharon’s birthday with family.
- Dave Morris was excited about a surprise drop-off of beer bottles and cans at the office. He was not sure where they came from, so thanks to the person that donated them for the good of Polio +.
- Iain Scott had a great time in London, England with Caroline. They were at King’s College London for a handover of artifacts and reception to honour Caroline’s Great -Great-Great Grandfather John Frederick Daniell. He was famous for the ‘Daniell Cell’. Further story details to follow below.
- Nancy Morris had a fantastic time in Neepawa watching the twins play hockey and win!
- Brian Campbell had an interesting, mixed day on the weekend. He went from a business meeting on to a funeral for an uncle. Then he took the grandkids to Heebie Geebie’s Halloween fright show. The next morning it was off to an early volleyball tournament for a grandchild.
- Jim Forestell had his sister visit from Toronto for Thanksgiving. She was here for the snowstorm and all that that entailed. Let’s just say she was not impressed with Winnipeg’s weather.
- Chuck Crocker was happy that his power did not turn off during the storm. His friend Mark however…his power was off from Thursday through to Monday. We have to have sympathy for those that lost power.
- Doug McKenzie was happy to share that his son, Kenny, is taking part in the 2019 CISM World Military Games in Wuhan, China right now. He is a member of Canada’s Men’s Volleyball Team. The opening ceremony was spectacular. If you have a couple spare hours check out the YouTube video of the opening ceremony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKIfgkxaJSE
- Ed Thompson had a wonderful time relaxing and exploring while on vacation in Guatemala. He and Elaine are still speaking to each other, so it must have been a successful trip.
John Frederick Daniell: “Daniell Cell” information provided by Iain Scott
Iain Scott provided the following information about Caroline’s great-great-great grandfather John Frederick Daniell at my request (DGM). Caroline’s father passed away last year and while cleaning out his study, the family found Daniell’s bust and his medals that he was awarded. These had been passed down through the years. Caroline’s sister Catherine carried out research to discover the link to King’s College London. He was the first Professor of Chemistry at King’s and a close friend of famous scientist, Micheal Faraday. The decision by the four sisters to offer these artifacts was easily the right decision. When King’s responded to her email, they confirmed it was the right decision as they have an annual lecture in Daniell’s name each year and would very much like the family to attend the handover and reception. The bust and medals are now with King’s College for future generations of scientists. The Head of Chemistry mentioned he would like the medals to be in a prominent place to give the students a measure of the University’s expectation of success.
Birthdays & Anniversaries
Elaine Thompson has a birthday approaching so we celebrated tonight. Happy Birthday being sung was requested.
Chuck Crocker celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary one week ago.
50/50
Acting Sarge Lyle miller asked Dr. Maryanne Crockett to pull the ticket for the draw tonight. # 127 was the stub to match. Lorraine Forestell held the match. She instantly won a ‘mug’ for the match. Now the marble…. Lorraine’s attempt at finding the elusive blue marble fell short this evening. More in the Pot for the next 50/50.
Fines
- Acting President Jim Forestell for trying to close the meeting without having the Sarge complete his duties.
- Iain Scott for his earlier comment that he was happy to be in London, England where he did not have to repeat himself when he spoke…people actually understood what he was saying the first time!
