Acting President Glenn shared his version of the District’s Land Acknowledgement Statement and a video of O Canada that was used as a CBC-TV sign-off some years ago. The Thought of the week was this quote of RI President-Elect Jennifer Jones –“Silver linings rise out of the most challenging circumstances.”

ROTARY MOMENTS

Bridge of Hope Ukraine Dinner Fundraiser Will take place at Breezy Bend on Thursday, April 14. The kitchen staff will prepare a Ukrainian smorg for the dinner. Two hundred tickets expect to be sold at $100 each (with a $50 tax receipt to be issued for each ticket sold). Donations of $6,000 have already been received. Proceeds of sales of “cake pops” in Ukrainian colours after the event (as well as t-shirts) will be donated to the event.

Having discovered a treasure of Rotary memories in a big binder, PDG Nancy shared them with Acting President Glenn who undertook to scan the images into a slide presentation which they shared with Rotarians in attendance.

The presentation started with the image of the 2005 Chicago Rotary Conference poster celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Rotary International between the 18th and 22nd of June. A bus load of Charleswood Rotarians made the trip to Chicago for that celebration.

Other images included the following:

• Our club's lobster steamer at work at the Kenora Lobster dinner event.
• Pictures of Rotary Exchange students hosted by Charleswood Rotarians (18 of them stayed at the Morris's for part of their exchange.)
• Several images of Mexican wheelchair recipients courtesy of the club's Wheelchair Foundation. Apparently, these wheelchairs did not survive for long in Mexico's road conditions.
• Operation Eyesight – Group Study Exchange providing sight-restoring surgery in India
• A club award for Immigration Literacy
• Appreciation for the installation of a Ryan's Well.
• Recognition for funding The Ripple Effect's program of building and updating schools in Guatemala
• A Metro newspaper clip of Charleswood residents being honoured by Rotary
• A Charleswood Adult Education – Literacy Centre set up at Westgrove School
• Our club's feasibility study for the Assiniboine Forest
• A graduate student conference in October 2016
• Recognition for the club's support for Siloam Mission, for STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service) and the Peace and Conflict Studies Association

• Several images of South African children (at Tintown and Eden Creche daycares) that were recipients of toys, food, funds and Canadian flags.
• Recognition for the funds from Rotary Clubs in Charleswood, Margate (South Africa) and Notos (Greece) to provide water,and toilets at a secondary school in Mashesha, SA, as well as a toilet and sink for teaching staff at the same school.
• Recognition for a water project in India which resulted in residents' illnesses plumetting.
• List of the club's outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students and inbound Exchange Students over the years.

Nancy Hansen suggested future club projects focus on the idea that Rotary can help people keep moving (e.g. purchasing wheelchairs and promoting accessibility).

Acting President Glenn thanked PDG Nancy for her presentation and advised other members with Rotary pictures (including banners of clubs visited or visiting) to consider scanning them and placing them into the club's website.

Since our meeting had no guests, Sarge Mike proceeded directly to Happy Bucks.

HAPPY BUCKS

Darvin was happy for the +18 degree temperature and no snow where he was located.

Dave was surprised that a gentleman who apparently lived in the same beach area as the Morris cottage is located asked to buy two tickets to the Bridge of Hope Ukraine Fundraising Dinner.

PDG Nancy has turned in a large number of screw-top plastic bottles to Agape Table and when they called back to thank her, she asked about the number of Agape clients over the years. Apparently they served 85,000 clients in 2019, 109,000 in 2020 and 125,000 in 2021. The comment was “the need is ever growing!”

Cathy was surprised that Darvin doesn’t like snow. She loves to watch snow melt.

Chuck has observed a 13 inch drop in the snow depth in his back yard. Meanwhile, he has learned that a fisherman on his lake using a 4 foot long auger with and 18 inch extension, was unable to reach the water!
