President Elect Iain Scott called the meeting to order with the land acknowledgement and the singing of O’Canada

Rotary Moment – President Elect Iain visited a museum in London, England that featured a polio exhibit. He showed some photos. Rotary’s role and logo were highlighted.

Club Business Announcements:

Lobsterfest – our numbers are down from last year. Still waiting for some member reports on how many you sold. Advise Cathy no later than end of day this Friday. Jim Forestell circulated a list for volunteers. It was suggested that we sell Lobsterfest tickets at the Assiniboine Forest. Something to consider for next year.

Chuck – tomorrow night at Westgrove School to work on the raised beds. He called for volunteers.

Ukraine Committee – next volunteer call is for Saturday, June 17. Visit www.bridgeofhopeukraine.com to register as a volunteer.

Iain – dog walker garage sale event. 6 coffee makers and 5 boxes of household items donated to Ukraine project. Garage sales are good sources for furnishing a home.

Guest Speaker –Ed Thompson talked about the Ripple Effect Program in Guatemala. He highlighted how the curriculum is loaded onto a server, so students are not reliant on internet access. A group of Rotarians in our District are responsible for the program. They sometimes visit in person. Parents in the community also volunteer. It should also be noted that 55% of the country’s population is indigenous.

He showed a video shot in October, 2019. It includes a summary of the work done over the years with impressive student support. There are photos of facilities, scholarship recipients and volunteers from District 5050.

Sarge – those in attendance welcomed Denise Walker, member of the Satellite Club (who was attending with Nancy Hansen).

Happy Dollars (thanks Cathy Skene)

• Chuck was out at his cabin and it was HOT. He was happy that he had A/C put in.
• Al Roberts put his gardening aside and spent the day at his son's at Cook's Creek.
• Elaine was happy because Sarge announced that there were no visitors at tonight's meeting. That must mean that Sharon is now a member!
• Jim was happy that he got in 27 holes of golf n on the weekend.
• Sharon was happy because working with the Lobsterfest Committee reminded her of how important the event was to Darvin.
• Len was happy that his 101 year old dad was down on his hands and knees rescuing a lady's slipper in his garden.
• In the midst of Happy Bucks Sarge Lyle suddenly realized that we did have a guest...online! Denise Walker from the satellite club was with Nancy Hansen.
• Ed Thompson went to Holland with friends where he was pleased to see that the fairgrounds had been upgraded, and was really pleased to enjoy a roast beef dinner.
• Nancy Morris was happy that we didn't get the terrible storm that had been predicted.
• Jagdish was happy to have had his 3rd AMD injection and that his vision has improved substantially.

Sarge – there were two fines. President Glenn had the 50/50 ticket but did not draw the blue marble. Jack Wilson had the winning ticket for the raffle but he did not find the blue marble. Lorraine and John were fined.

Upcoming meeting – June 12, Mr. Karasevich, CEO Assiniboine Park Conservancy, will speak about the new 10-year operating plan for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy and  potential collaboration with the Charleswood Rotary Club in jointly promoting the Assiniboine Forest & Assiniboine Park Conservatory.
