Rotary Moment

Stephanie A. Urchick, of the Rotary Club of McMurray, Pennsylvania, USA, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International for 2024-25, a decision that would make her only the second woman to hold that position. ChatGPT

President Glenn thanked Iain Scott for volunteering to present tonight on short notice. Instead of a bio, he read the following:

The Request

Write a bio of 250 words for a presenter of CHatGPT to a Rotary club to explain what it can do in simple to understand language that those of all ages can understand

The Result

Hello Rotary Club, my name is ChatGPT and I am a cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology developed by OpenAI. As a presenter, I will be explaining what I can do in simple terms for everyone to understand.

ChatGPT is a language model, which means I have been trained on a massive amount of text data to generate human-like responses to questions and prompts. Think of me as a virtual assistant that can answer questions, have a conversation, or even write a story!

The idea behind ChatGPT is to make it easier for people to access information and complete tasks without having to go through a lot of hassle. For example, if someone wants to know the weather forecast, they can simply ask me and I will give them an accurate response.

My training has also allowed me to understand context and use common sense to provide relevant information, making me a valuable tool for everyone, especially for those who may not be as familiar with technology.

In conclusion, I am an AI model that has been trained to assist people with their questions and tasks in a conversational way. I am user-friendly, and my language is easy to understand for people of all ages. I am here to make your life easier and provide you with accurate information.

Iain presented on this interesting topic illustrating other examples of how the AI technology works. He said that ChatGPT has hit 100 million users just two months after launch. By comparison, it took TikTok nine months to reach the milestone- and secured a $10 billion investment from Microsoft. In principle, it uses machine learning of data from the internet. Some say that in a few years, it will replace Google search. Iain spoke about some of the obvious sectors that will be impacted. He then showed how it worked in practice, asking How Does the Assiniboine Forest help the community in Winnipeg and to write a play with 4 scenes bases on an urban forest in Winnipeg. Both tasks were quickly delivered.

Nancy Morris thanked Iain and there were several questions from members.

Sarges Corner

Happy Bucks

  • Mandy was happy for an incredible day on Saturday when over 15 volunteers showed up to gather furniture to be given to Ukrainian refugees.
  • Nancy Morris was happy to have had Dema and Kate and their boys, and Kate's mom Laura to dinner. Laura brought delicious cabbage rolls.
  • Chuck was happy to have been a part of Saturday's furniture moving event, and very happy that he didn't have to move any hide-a-beds.
  • Glenn was happy to be going on vacation soon.

We all sang Happy Birthday to Ed Toews.

The Draw

Sarge Lyle asked Dima to draw the 50/50 ticket, owned by Elaine Thompson. Eliane did not pull the blue marble, so the 50/50 game continues.

Lyle did not issue any fines.
