Our club’s Rotary Youth Chair Glenn introduced Marcello Audino from St Paul’s High School, who was chosen by that school as a “very deserving” recipient of the Ed Werbowski Scholarship. Just a few of Marcello’s community and school activities:
Volunteered at The Saul and Claribel Simkin Center, a senior’s home, as part of the Christian service program (Currently working full time at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre, as a recreational facilitator.)
Volunteered for a political candidate for the federal election for two months in 2019
Volunteered as a tennis coach at the Winnipeg Winter Club in 2015-2018 (Currently working at Kildonan Tennis Club, and Tuxedo Tennis Club as a tennis coach, helping run tennis programs, camps, and running semi-private tennis lessons)
Served meals at the spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the “Viva Italia Choir” (2017 to 2020)
Read to younger students and helped with physical education classes at École Lansdowne on numerous occasions
Entirely exempt from his exams, he helped classmates prepare for their final exams in mathematics, chemistry and physics in June 2018 and June 2019.
Marcello indicated he was honored to have been chosen by the club for this scholarship. Next year he will be studying software engineering (which is a 4 to 5-year co-op program with work terms) at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Glenn informed Marcello that the cheque for the scholarship “was put in the mail today”.
