President Bob called on Dave Morris to get us going again this week. Sarge Lyle Miller was back from vacation, so he took over the meeting right after O Canada and Rotary grace. We had two guests with us tonight. The first was our presenter, Wendy MacDonald (Urban Stable), a late arrival was Nick Gayhart (Urban Stable student alumni).
Rotary Moments;
Elaine Thompson has just returned from San Diego and taking part in the Rotary International Assembly 2018. There were 529 District Governors Elect (DGE), sponsors, trainers, Board Members, Trustees all present in one hotel. Everywhere you went there were Rotarians and Assembly participants to greet and converse with. Rotary International President elect, Barry Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, ‘Be the Inspiration’. There were general sessions for the DGE and spouses as well as separate sessions just for the DGE. There was an event that included a Grand March of individuals dressed in their cultural dress. This was very interesting and entertaining. There was also a Caribbean dancing evening that was scheduled to end way too early, 9:00pm! Participants were able to stretch it out to 9:35pm. The entire program was more relaxed than the ‘Zone Institutes’. It was so busy though that she and Ed were not able to spend much time at all enjoying what San Diego had to offer for your every day tourist. However, only one day of sun on the first day there, then cloud and rain. Therefore, being inside was not terrible.
Dave Morris advised that the Rotary International dues have been paid. Due to the $USD exchange rate, we are getting killed when paying R.I. dues. Our club dues just manage to pay the R.I. dues with a little left over to pay for PETS (President Elect Training Seminar).
Ed Thompson wanted to make the club members aware of the fact that so far in 2018, there have been no cases of polio in Pakistan.
