The board meeting will be held on September 9th, returning to the custom of meeting on the second Tuesday of the month.
Winnipeg Assiniboia is planning a Paul Harris dinner on Thursday October 30th to recognize vocational and community members. They are inviting other Winnipeg Rotary clubs to nominate their own Paul Harris recipients and take part in the dinner. It is hoped that this will provide valuable publicity for Rotary.
Westminster Housing Society needs volunteers on September 28th who can help with weeding the garden and building fencing.

Kelly and Warren Thompson shared their story of their trip to Guatemala, where our District supports building classrooms, scholarships for students to go beyond Grade 6, and scholarships for student teachers.

The Rotary branded beer is available Friday. We took the minimum order, 100 flats of 24 cans, for a total of 2,400 cans. It will sell to Rotary members only, at $3/can.
The GreenSpaces Golf Tournament will be held at Kingswood on September 10th. Sponsors and great prizes are in place. We could still accommodate more golfers.
Westminster Housing Society is planning a fence repair day. There are four clubs involved: West, Assiniboia, Downtown and Charleswood. There will be a work bee on Sunday, September 28th, followed by a thank you barbeque.
Winnipeg Assiniboia is hosting a Paul Harris dinner on October 30th at which they will be honouring Paul Samyn, and a yet-to-be-named Bear Clan member. Other Winnnipeg clubs are invited to nominate their own reci[ients and join the fun.

Happy Bucks
- Chuck had a fun time at his cabin with his four grandchildren.
- Mandy offered advice to those who had a problem with a tree following on their house.
- Dave Morris was glad that the grandkids were back home, and he can rest.
- Cathy was grateful for the help cleaning up her building’s Events Centre last week, and doing such a good job that she got her deposit back. A special thanks to Chuck who stayed to the very end of clean-up, and delivered the leftovers to Siloam Mission.
- Warren Thompson was happy to announce the birth of his third grandchild, Wyatt, who was born on Warren’s mom’s birthday.
- Ed Toews was happy to have been paid by the movie company for the use of his truck. However, he will not give up the day job.
- Lyle bought a used 5th wheel camper. They thought they were going to Morden on Friday, but it was Thursday. And they forget to have corn.
- Lloyd was reprimanded for cutting out an article in the paper, which resulted in cutting up the comics which were on the other side of the page. But he couldn’t help himself. The article was about protecting green spaces.
- LeeAnn was happy to be back from Switzerland, a trip that was extended by four days by the Air Canada lockout/strike. She got to hike the back of the North Face, which was amazing.
- Rod did the MS Bike Ride which went well, and he raised over $700.
- Ed and Elaine Thompson went to the Morden Corn and Apple festival with grandkids. They also did not have any corn due to the long line-ups.
Birthdays
President David had his 63rd birthday today. It would also have been his father’s 98th, if he were alive. Of course David wanted us to sing to him so we did.
David also shared that he booked a swing assessment at GolfTech. A friend told him that was dumb. He could have told David that his swing sucks for free.

Cathy had the winning ticket but did not draw the elusive blue marble.
There will be no meeting next week due to the Labour Day holiday.
September 8th the guest speaker will be Marissa Berard, Coordinator, Nature Manitoba, speaking about birds, threats and conservation.
