Al Sirovs (welcome back, Al!) was at the door (for Tania Laird), Doug Lipp was chairman and (sniff)... there wasn't enough time for a Sergeant's session crying
We had apologies from Peter Morgan, Bob Harrison, Simon Brook, Chris Thurtell, Neil Thurlow and Darrell Brown (there may have been others - they can be a noisy mob, those Surfers Sunrisians, when they have had a coffee or two already... ☺)

President Jo Winwood greeted our visitors PDG Tony Heading and his charming wife Dianne, and we were delighted to have a group of visiting Rotarians from Taiwan, led by Philip Chan (?). In accord with our new meeting format, we moved straight on to our Guest Speaker, Tony Heading's presentation (see separate article above).

After Tony's presentation, Gerald East, in his capacity of our club's Director of The Rotary Foundation, announced that a movie night will be held on Thursday 1st November, details to be advised shortly.  Net proceeds to go to Polio Plus.  Also, our annual collection at the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre will take place next week, from Thursday 18th to 20th October.  If you are not already on the Roster, please contact Gerald.  This is going to be bigger than ever, with a massive wheelbarrow full of goodies being raffled, rather than just rattling the bucket.

Geoff Croad is still looking for a couple of volunteers to help at RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness), a day long program which instructs Year 11 and 12 students in the perils of driving. The event will be held this coming Friday 12th October, at the Southport Community Centre. Contact Geoff to get on the roster. To obtain more information on RYDA, click on this link. Undoubtedly, this program does save lives.

Ray Higgs foreshadowed a big Rotary Peace Fellowship event which will be held on 18th April next year at the University of Queensland - more details as we get closer to the event, and Col Laurenson announced that, finally, Donations in Kind has a new venue!

In closing, President Jo Winwood announced that, under Past President Andy Bell's leadership, our team last year won a Presidential Citation!  Give yourself a pat on the back, fellows! She also referred to Des La Rance's resignation. due to health reasons, as a full member (see separate article on his being awarded an Honorary Membership)
