Airdrie was mentioned to have the fourth highest rate of reported domestic violence in Alberta. It is not something to be ashamed about, because shame drives to a culture of cover-up. The statistic is a reflection of the authorities and society facing the issue head-on and dealing with it.
All reported domestic disputes are followed-up, irrespective, although less than a fifth is found to involve a criminal offence. And that is the 'good' news, because it helps with prevention and continued care.
