The Rotary Club of Airdrie was honored today to have the Mayor of Airdrie, Peter Brown, address the club on the activities in Airdrie and the Council.

Growth in Airdrie is continuing, with significant investment in commercial developments, the establishment of businesses including the creation of about 750 jobs, and the building of over 900 residential houses and apartments, in 2017.

The Council is actively supporting three main initiatives, namely: The Economic Development Strategy for community leaders to have a voice in land-use and report inhibitors, Growth Management Board for cooperation and coordination between neighboring local authorities, and the Healthcare Co-operative to address comprehensive cooperative physical and mental health care for the community.

A taxes increase was unavoidable after a long period of low taxes, and in accordance with a standing agreement with Calgary, water & waste water rates have increased, but it is still a good comparable rate.

Two major road projects are on the cards, subject to some provincial funding. The first is an rail underpass in Yankee Boulevard, and the second the extension of 40th Avenue across the canal and over the Deerfoot highway.

It was a privilege to hear firsthand what the opportunities and challenges are. Thank you Mayor Peter Brown.
