Following a fine Orangevale Rotary tradition, senior scholarships totaling $6000 were  awarded at the Senior Awards Nights at both Casa Roble  and Bella Vista High Schools.

Honored at Casa Roble H.S. were Selena Chavez ($1000 Laird Smith Community Service Scholarship); Hope Stockwell ($1500 Academic Scholarship); and Laura Soto ($1000 ROP Scholarship).  Two seniors at Bella Vista H.S. were deserving recipients of Rotary scholarships:  Tyler Miguel ($1000 Laird Smith Community Service Scholarship) and Zoe Warp ($1500 Academic Scholarship).

All 5 graduates were invited to attend an Orangevale Rotary breakfast meeting in June to meet the very generous Orangevale Rotarians and receive their scholarship checks.  Rotarians were very pleased to meet 3 of the students at the June 7 meeting and to hear about their exciting plans for the future.  Tyler Miguel will be attending UC Riverside where he will play Division 1 soccer and major in Biology, followed by grad school to become either a surgeon or physical therapist.  Hope Stockwell will be majoring in Human Biology at UC San Diego, followed by grad school to become a Physician’s Assistant.  Selena Chavez will be attending Georgetown University, majoring in International Politics. She is also considering the Peace Corps or the military before graduate school. Selena’s dream is to work in diplomacy and international relations.

After meeting the students and listening to their very optimistic and exciting plans for the future, Orangevale Rotary confirmed once again that the Rotary scholarship fund is truly an investment in the future of very deserving local graduates.
