Covington Rotary Announces Changes to Meeting Schedule.

Beginning August, 2013, we will hold 3 regular meetings each month, supplemented with at least on Fellowship Event or Service Project.  Perfect Attendance requires attendance at all 3 regular meetings each month, plus attendance at 12 Fellowship or Service opportunities.  As per Rotary tradition, attendance at another Rotary Club's meeting anywhere in world counts as attendance at a Covington Rotary meeting or event.

Beginning in the month of August, 2013, the Covington Rotary Club will change slightly its meeting format.

Historically, the Club has met every Tuesday at noon.  For a couple of decades, the Club met at its own building on Tyler Street, did you know that?

Now we have a wonderful arrangement with Dakota Restaurant that allows us to have the very finest lunches at each meeting, wonderfully served in the true Dakota grand style.  In order to continue to meet our obligations to Dakota and our financial responsibilities to our membership, and our service obligations as Rotarians, we have made a small change in our meeting schedule.

We will lower the number of regular meetings we hold each month to three (3).  For the most part, the intention is to meet every 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesday of every month.  In months with holidays and special obligations, we will still hold three (3) regular meetings on a slightly different schedule.  The Board will inform the Membership with announcements, a published calendar, and electronic communications.  You should also check this website for the meeting schedule.

The 1st meeting of every month will be dedicated to a Rotary Theme in order to continue to relay to the membership and prospective members the scope of what Rotarians accomplish the world over.  We are calling this series , "Rotary 101."  Some of these meetings will focus on specific efforts of the Covington Rotary Club, others will highlight District 6840 leaders and projects, and the remainder will highlight aspects of Rotary International.  Our August 6 meeting was led by our own Elizabeth Van Sant, District 6840 Rotary Youth Exchange Chair, and gave an introduction to the programs that fall under the New Generations Avenue of Service.

Our 2nd meeting each month will feature a speaker from our area who will share information on relevant initiatives and projects that effect our community.  On August 20, our featured speaker will be John Morvant, Headmaster of Christ Episcopal School.  He will be speaking on the significant expansion of Christ Episcopal School and how the school interacts closely with our community on many levels.

Our 3rd and final meeting each month is set aside for our Business Meeting.  This month, is it scheduled for Tuesday, August 27.  While we encourage all members to bring guests, this is one that is intended for club members to examine the finances of the club, make decisions on club policy and prospective members.  Members who want to propose topics for this meeting should send them a week in advance to Club President, Sean Bourgeois, who will lead the meeting.  The Covington Rotary Board meets prior to each month's Business Meeting.

Every month we will also hold at least one Fellowship Event or Service Project.  In order to maintain or attain Perfect Attendance, members must attend 12 of these events each year, or attend a make-up meeting at another club or on-line.

In August, the Fellowship Event is the District Foundation, Membership, PR, and Youth Exchange meeting in Poplarville, MS on AUGUST 17.  Registration for that event is being handled on-line via the District 6840 site.  Two Covington Rotarians are featured presenters, District Governor Elect Brian Hall, and Youth Exchange Chair, Elizabeth Van Sant.  Turn in your meeting agenda to Club Secretary Paxton Fellers to receive attendance credit.  This is annual meeting that brings together Rotarians from across District 6840 and is an opportunity both for fellowship with fellow Rotarians and also to gain perspective on what Rotary is, what support there is from the District and Rotary International, and what opportunities there are to coordinate efforts with nearby Rotary Clubs.  There are 54 Rotary Clubs in District 6840 and approximately 2500 Rotarians.  Truly, there is no limit to the service we can render our communities and the world when we put together the combined weight of individual Rotarians.
