The Great Car Raffle: Karen Goldberg, a tahoe local, won $25,000!!!!
StoryThumbnail

The Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe held its annual Great Car Raffle this past Wednesday, May 7th at Lakeland Village.  Thanks to all the wonderful community members and out-of-area folk who purchased a $50 ticket.  We raised over $40,000 to donate back to the community.  In the past few years, we have donated these fundraised monies to local STHS high school scholarships ($20,000 a year), upgrades at Sawmill Pond (including stocking the fish), Tahoe Arts Project, Bijou Community School's Two Way Immersion Program and Field of Dreams, STHS Grad Night, B.A.T.S., field trips for all FOUR elementary schools, and many more great projects here in town!  We couldn't do it without all of our wonderful community's support!

This year, the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe’s 2014 Great Car Raffle Winner is

Karen Goldberg

Married to Martin, and mother of two beautiful girls, Corinne and Sarah Joelle, Karen is a Tahoe local.  Co-Founder of The Bridge Language Academy, adjunct Spanish teacher at LTCC, and amazing parent volunteer at her children's school, Karen is an active and amazing member of the community.  She has already proclaimed her winnings will be used for children's college fund :)!  Congratulations Goldberg Family...a more deserving family we could not have found!

The Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket which allows our club to support vital programs in our community, provide scholarships, and contribute to hands-on Rotarian’s at work projects throughout the year.

Cardinale Way – Shelli Mohr; Lakeland Village – Meghann Barkley and Deanna Welch; Lake Tahoe Tribune – Natasha Schue; Food So Good It’s A Crime – Jeanette Shippee; and sponsors of our ticket coupons, including MS Dixie II/Tahoe Queen (Aramark), BioSpirit, Lake Tahoe Golf Course, Edgewood Golf Course, Passaretti’s, Nephele’s, The Beacon, Primo’s Italian Bistro, and Tahoe Keys Deli.

Hi Kathy,

Here are some pictures, student assignments and a short report for the SLT Rotary grant of $950 we received last September. We hope to do similar field trips this year to plant near Cold Creek. Is Sept still a good time to apply?

On October 16 and 17, 2012, the SPF held 2 forest field days with 170 6th graders from South Tahoe Middle School. The students planted 600 sugar pine seedlings and participated in a watershed education activity and an orienteering exercise. Attached are some photos and student reflections from the field trips. Thank you SLT Rotary!

Best,

Maria

I ran into Keith Cooney, the guy who won our raffle this past May.  Here is a picture of his car (Honda CRV) that he  bought with his winnings (his old car lost a tire (like the whole thing came off)) the day after our raffle drawingHe was very appreciative of his gift from us :)

Thought you might want this for a meeting and our webpage?
