Dr. Jeffrey Orr will be presenting to the Club about advancements in total knee replacements. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and joint replacement surgeries, including the use of the minimally invasive Mako SmartRobotics system for total knee, total hip, and partial knee joint replacement procedures.

Dr. Orr provides orthopedic care to patients at Barton Health, Barton Center for Orthopedics & Wellness, and Tahoe Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and is also a medical provider for the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team, providing care to top athletes.He received his medical doctorate from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and conducted his orthopedic surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Orr completed his fellowship training at the University of South Florida. He’s an affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Orr is from South Lake Tahoe.

We are privileged to have the personable and knowledgeable Morgan Hester present to us today on coyotes. She is a Wildlife Care Manager at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) n South Lake Tahoe.  

Morgan is from Wendell, North Carolina, and has bachelor’s degrees in Wildlife Biology with a concentration in Wildlife Rehabilitation and Psychology from Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina. She gained extensive rehabilitation experience at the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in North Carolina and later at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Florida.  

 

Morgan will remove the mysteries and misunderstandings about these majestic and fascinating creatures. You will learn about their adaptations and behavior, and their role in helping the Tahoe ecosystem.  For instance, you will hear that they can not be domesticated. You will also learn about the role of the LTWC in our community.

Tools, cooking supplies, water purifiers, blankets and solar-powered flashlights and lanters are included in their kits, modified to meet the particular needs.  The solar-powered lights have USB ports to charge cell phones.  The kits are often put together using local sources which provides economic benefits as well.
