Mike Elgin was our Rotarian of the Week and his guest speaker was Ashley Hermes.
Ashley Hermes gave a very informative talk about promoting our club online through social media. She educated us on hashtags and Facebook tagging and sharing. She encouraged everyone to like and share our club's Facebook page and to keep Sam Bell updated with Rotarian activity in the community by emailing her pictures of what our members are doing for our area.Ashley also educated us on E-Clubs and invited us to use her home club as an option for make-up meetings. Rotarian of the Week
Mike Elgin
Mike was born and raised in the Baton Rouge, LA. area
(Denham Springs, LA.) and moved to Port Lavaca in 1990.
Mike currently works for Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas
as a Director in the Engineering Construction Group. Mike is
married to his wonderful wife Myra for 28 years. We have 2
children Morgan (a nurse at Detar Hospital) and Mason (a financial
planner at KMH Wealth Management). When Mike’s
not working he enjoys time with his family, playing golf,
hunting and fishing.

Guest Speaker
Ashley Hermes
Ashley Hermes has been involved with Rotary since she joined
Interact at Yoakum High School. She attended District 5870
RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) in 2004 and joined Rotaract
at Texas A&M where she served as President in 2008‐
2009. After undergraduate Ashley received the Rotary Ambassadorial
Scholarship and studied public health in Hong Kong in
2009‐2010 and served with Rotarians in the region. Upon return
she joined the Yoakum Rotary club in 2010 and continued
her work with the District 5870 RYLA program serving as
Program Director from 2014‐2016. In 2014 Ashley was a charter
member of the Rotary E‐club of District 5870 of which she
served as president in 2017‐2018. Ashley is an occupational
therapist at Post Acute Medical Rehabilitation Hospital in Victoria
and resides in Yoakum.
