Larry Nichols- Superintendent-Calhoun County Independent School District

• Graduated from Texas A&M in 1977. Received Masters degree from Texas A&M in 1988. Earned Superintendents Certification in 1988
• High school classroom teacher in Lexington ISD for 8 years
• Elected to the Lexington City Council in 1984. Elected Mayor of Lexington in 1985. Opponent was a 20 year incumbent.
• Appointed Lexington Elementary Principal in 1986. Nominated by Lexington Elementary staff as ATPE Administrator of the Year for 1987. Selected as a State Finalist.
• Re-elected Mayor with the largest vote total Lexington's history.
• Employed as Superintendent of Thorndale ISD in 1989. Brought community together after divisive Bond issue failed prior to my arrival.
• Employed as Superintendent of Caldwell lSD 1992-2000. Caldwell Is my hometown. Gained status as Recognized District, growing student body and passed bond Issue in 3 to 1 vote.
• Employed as Superintendent of Calhoun County ISD 2000-2010. Led district recovery from Hurricane Claudette including receiving FEMA funds. District became Academic UIL Champs for 7 years in a row. Calhoun County ISD was nominated for HEB Excellence in Education award. Recognized district for 2 years, then Exemplary district during 2009-2010 school years with 64% free and reduced students. Passed 2 bond Issues with 80+%of the vote. Nominated by CCISD Board as Superintendent of the Year.
• 2010-2016 Employed as Superintendent of Galveston ISD. District was recovering from Hurricane IKE and academically unacceptable. We have worked to balance the budget by ending programs that we could not afford. Implemented a Galveston Academic Plan that enabled the district to meet standards and earned distinctions on several campuses. Achieved 97% of the vote to authorize recapture and keep GISD intact. Achieved 91% of walk in vote and 82 % overall vote for tax ratification election. Implemented a discipline plan that moves disruptive students and has expectations for student behavior. Invested in our greatest asset, the GISD staff, through extensive professional development and 3 years' salary increases. Moved completion rate from 74% to 94%. Worked to gain support from various groups in the community. Worked to restore the reputation of Galveston Ball High School In the community. Earned 300 points in 2016 District 23 5A Academic Contest, up from 6 points in 2010.
