AnnouncementsStar Park happened on Saturday.  (Editor’s note:  My bad!  Did not get this out on time.)  Pati reminded us of Duck Ticket Sales at Ferndale Haggens.  The Dates are:  June 15,  5:00-8:00 and June 18, 9:00-3:00 and June 25, 9:00-3:00.  Also, July 2, 9:00-3:00 and July 3, 4:30—8:00  Please sign up for a shift or two.  It is a fun way to sell tickets!  (FYI:  You can sell tickets ANYWHERE!  Tim sold Scott Wallace a ticket during announcements!  Think of places you can sell and let Tim or Eric know!  Deb earned her Blue Badge, proudly presented by Sharon!  (Deb earned it awhile ago, just took Sharon a year to get it to her!)

Happy Bucks:  Bill was happy for lots of good years in Rotary and also for the sun on Saturday.  Dale was happy for a great YSA day and the good kids involved.  He was also happy his father is coming home from the hospital.   Tim was also happy for YSA and everyone involved in renewing his faith in the future.  Stan had sad bucks for his daughter, Janella breaking her wrist.  (Editor’s note:  When I told my granddaughter this, we spent a great deal of time making “Jakie ““the perfect” get well card. Jakie is a rock star in the Healey home!)    Pati was happy for our guests and for Star Park.  Julie was happy for OFFICIALLY being retired.  Bob Moles gave happy bucks as a colleague validated his description of Julie as being, “Frightfully intimidating, but amazingly nice!”   Deb was happy for her Blue Badge and YSA and her guest, Luann Van Werven.   Scott Wallace was happy to see our very young faces and Marge was buttering up, saying she was happy sitting next to Ken, who just happened to be Finemaster today.  Ken was $5 happy to see Bob, Marge, and Mr. Wallace, as well as being happy for YSA and “everyone here.”  Rocky was happy to welcome our guests and Laurie was sad to have missed YSA, but happy to have 4 days with her granddaughter.  Sharon was happy for YSA and the full house today.  She was also happy that the Blaine H.S. bids will be opened at 4:00.

Finemaster:  Ken did the honors and fined anyone without Rotary pins, $1 and in revenge, anyone NOT wearing shorts got fined $1.  If you did not give happy bucks, you were fined a $ and Sharon was awarded the “Jake Smith Award” for being the last one in and she was fined $1 for the honor.  You were fined $2 if you were not at the YSA and $1 if you were; this was because we did not fine people at the awards and we do need to keep a budget!  Anyone not at Ski to Sea or Blossom Time festival was fined and Scott got the coveted “Guest fine”[very rare!] for leaving this group for “the old guys club.”  Bob Moles was fined a dollar to keep him from feeling left out and Rocky was fined $1 for being related to Ken, but Marlene was fined $2 for being related to Rocky. (Editor’s note:  I have paid much bigger penalties being related to Rocky!  Just saying!]  Sharon was almost fined, and anyone not fined was fined.  Tracy was fined for calling Ken to tell him his monthly check was off by 3 cents, but Tim will pay this fine because it is obviously a training issue.  Dale (our incoming President) was fine $1 for trying to impersonate a banker:  dressed well, but carrying cash.

Banners:  Tim almost got it, sort of.   Sharon tried, and came close… the theme, 3 different locations of banners spelling out June was, “June is busting out all over!”   How clever, Stan!!

Program:  Today’s program was Marco Hatch PhD, the director of Salish Sea Research Center at the Northwest Indian College.  Marco is a member of the Samish Indian Nation and earned his PhD from the prestigious, Scripps Institute.   He gave a captivating presentation on Clam Garden Ecology describing the aquaculture that has been practiced for 2,000 years.  He provided interesting information on properly managing the ecosystem and increasing the health of the beaches, as well as increasing cultural bonds in the community.    This was a great presentation and we learned a great deal about intertidal communities and indigenous food systems.  If you were not here, you missed a very interesting presentation.

Drawing:   Pati won the door prize, which was a gift basket donated by the Elks club.  (We all noticed the booze had been taken out!)   Stan did not get the jackpot, and he returned the picture fame he had donated as the consolation prize.    The pot grows and is somewhere around $800!
