The trust was established in 1998 as a memorial to Rotarian Pat Moylan who prior to his untimely death, was a great advocate for the Youth in our community and on Rotary exchange

There are three Trustees who currently are Stuart Diggins, Steve Pusey and David Honeychurch

Funding

The Club provided the seed capital and has made regular annual contributions in most years since 1998

These finds are invested to increase the accumulated value by generating a secure and regular income and some capital growth. A portion of the annual proceeds are then made available for grants

Purpose

The  purpose of the Trust is to support deserving young people in the Western Australian community to:

  • Advance and promote their education
  • Alleviate poverty
  • Encourage activities that are for the benefit of the people of WA, including but not limited to representing the State/Australia in self development and sporting activities

Applications

Applicants must be under 21 years of age, can apply at any time and except in emergencies, must be in writing. There are no other conditions.

Over the years about twenty five (25) youth have received grants, some examples of which are:

  • A Triathlete to attend a National Competition
  • Part funding the travel costs to attend school trips to destinations such as Germany, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands and Cambodia where such events have a strong element of self development and/or provide aid to a local community.
  • Funding to attend the Leeuwin Adventure Training, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)
  • Assistance for a student pilot
  • Assistance for a severely disabled seven year old to receive a special education

Number and Value of Grants

The Trustees aim to make up to three grants a year to the value of up to $1,000 each.

Keeping an Eye Out

The Trustee are always on the lookout for deserving youth and encourage everyone to do the same, especially those who don’t fit the mould or qualify for the Club’s regular Youth programs

Our Most Recent Recipient

Tom is severely sight impaired and as a result needed some way of recording school work presentations for later enlargement and study. The perfect tool for this is an Apple iPad Pro with accompanying smart keyboard which the Trustees agreed to fund in conjunction with contributions from Tom’s parents, Maria and Francis; and the Rotary Club of Canning (nee Rossmoyne). We thank both parties very much for putting in: Tom will use the iPad for:

Distance Vision-Take images of Board work; enlarge text to take notes at his desk and access all smart board (electronic interactive whiteboard) content directly on the iPad.

For Near Vision-Read text books and work sheets emailed from teachers; take images too enlarge work sheets, diagrams and pictures from books; access the Classpad (electronic graphing calculator); his calculator and iBooks.
