As one of Rotary’s Avenues of Service, Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to:
- Aspire to high ethical standards in their occupation;
- Recognise the worthiness of all useful occupations, and;
- Contribute their vocational talents to the problems and needs of society.
When professionals join a Rotary club, they do so as a representative of their particular business or profession. This obliges them to represent their vocation within their Club and exemplify the ideals of Rotary within the workplace striving all the while to promote and advance Rotary’s high ethical standards guided by:
The Four Way Test being-Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
The Rotary Code of Conduct which requires each Rotarian to:
1. Act with integrity and high ethical standards in their personal and professional life
2. Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect
3. Use their professional skills through Rotary to mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people’s quality of life in their community and in the world
4. Avoid behaviour that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
Strategies
The strategies implemented by Rotarians, clubs, in their support of Vocational Service are:
- Strengthen the emphasis on vocation in new member recruitment and induction.
- Identify means of emphasising vocation in club activities.
- Create a stronger emphasis on business networking with integrity in Rotary at the club and district level.
- Focus more attention on business networking with integrity as a means of attracting and mentoring the new generation.
- Emphasise the connection between the Four Way Test and the Rotary Code of Conduct and their importance to the values of Rotary.
