Well, another JacFest is behind us, and after 21of them, you would think that they would just role off the production line, like a chook laying an egg!

Well, as history demonstrates, we will always, despite the best of planning, be at the behest of that which can go wrong!

HOT DAYS A TURN OFF
The first hot day after a mild spring was a definite turn off for the late morning and afternoon crowds, and, to be expected, turned a fabulous 21st birthday JacFest into a somewhat muted offering. Not only stall holders, but our financial returns on effort were well down, and I suspect the energy levels of our unstoppable volunteers were very deficient in the following days as well.

Our last hot one was in 2016, so I guess 2 in 21 years is an average of one in 10, and we just have to play the averages. No wet days, and that is a blessing!

It was wonderful to receive the 21st Birthday presentation from the CoM, and then get a good wrap in the WA Upper House for the event late last week.

SUPPLIER NON ATTENDANCE
One major let down was the non attendance of our perimeter fencing contractor, putting all of our money taking, entry point signage, and crowd and Covid control at risk.
NO ONE will ever appreciate what I went through coming up with a solution on the day, but which, in hind sight, may well prove a benefit for future entry point design.

There were some comments around stall selection and variety, and improving volunteer and crowd safety at entry points, and these, along with many other matters are the subject of the 2021 event review.

Not the least of issues for address is attracting willing key project directors and managers to ensure that our ageing warhorses can step back from front line duties. This will be a matter for further development and review.

Volunteers Sundowner.

Our Zone 1 Volunteers Sundowner 2 weeks ago was a great success from a Rotary perspective, with our 4 Zone Clubs presenting compelling reasons for supporting their community projects.
The CoM Volunteers Resource Centre messaged the 2,000 ‘volunteers’ on their list, and we ran an advert in PerthNow, but, overall, this produced a limited enquiry of interest in what Rotary has to offer.
Possibly 8 interested enquiries, with 4 or 5 attending the Sundowner, and some help at our JacFest. Follow ups underway, but suffice to say, we will discuss further at our Cluster meet this week with a view to holding another one in the first half 2022, and review our messaging.
District 9465 provided a Membership Grant to cover the costs of the Sundowner.
