CHILLIWACK, BC – Members of the Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fraser gathered at Central Elementary Community School on Tuesday, May 31, to present a contribution of $21,000 to Principal Leslie Waddington and the Parent Advisory Council for the completion of the school’s playground enhancement project.

A community service project selected by the club earlier in the Rotary year, fundraising committee members coordinated their efforts to raise the dollars necessary to fulfill the club’s pledge through their annual Rotary Travel Sweepstakes ticket sales.

“Local Rotary clubs have made a great commitment to developing the downtown area for families,” said Chilliwack Fraser Rotary Club president Linda Rook. “Building Central Community Park, enhancing the Gateway for Families computer lab, and now installing new playground equipment at Central Elementary, have all been service projects Rotarians have been proud to support,” Rook explained.

A number of community partners, in addition to the Chilliwack Fraser Rotary Club stepped forward in the last year to contribute the funds required to install the new playground equipment at Central including the Rotary Club of Chilliwack-Mt. Cheam, Main Street Church, and the City of Chilliwack.

“New playground equipment will benefit Central Elementary students in a meaningful way and provide an opportunity for them, and children in the community, to build friendships and enjoy playing outside in a safe, fun environment,” said school principal Leslie Waddington. “Our current students would have graduated by the time we would have raised enough money to fund the project had we been on our own.”

The Rotary Club of Chilliwack Fraser meets every Wednesday at 12:00pm in the Best Western Rainbow Country Inn. Visitors are always welcome.
