Rotarians give of their time, their talent and their treasure depending on their personal circumstances.

Many Rotarians give generously to The Rotary Foundation as their charity of choice because they know, that through their giving, more good can be done in the world.

The Rotary Foundation ticks all the right boxes and Rotarians and non-Rotarians know that The Rotarian Foundation is right up there with the best of the best charities, with low overheads and the highest accountability and governance. Unlike nearly every other charity, donors are assured they know how their money is being spent.

All gifts to The Rotary Foundation are greatly appreciated but annually at the Zone Conference The Rotary Foundation particularly recognises those who are Major Donors and/or Bequest Society Members. Major Donors are those who have donated at least US $10,000 to The Rotary Foundation and Bequest Society Members are those who have left a bequest for the same amount to The Rotary Foundation.

Like last year, the Zone 8 Conference this year was a virtual event so we were able to invite all Major Donors and Bequest Society Members to a virtual recognition function to thank them and recognise their giving. We know these donors do not look for endless recognition but their generosity is hugely valued and greatly appreciated, as is all giving.

At the virtual event on 11-12th September, we welcomed Foundation Trustee and Past RI Director Larry Lunsford, (right) who joined us from Kansas City in the USA to provide a report on The Rotary Foundation. Larry has a special connection to Australia as a former Ambassadorial Scholar, studying at the University of Newcastle. He was introduced by Past Rotary International President and Chairman Elect of The Rotary Foundation, Ian Riseley (left). Larry demonstrated comprehensively why he is a Trustee of The Foundation.

Ian and Larry also openly engaged in a lively Q&A session. This was followed by a recognition of all those joining or moving to a higher Major Donor or Bequest Society level since the previous function. A highlight of the function was live crosses to two new Arch Klumph Society Members and one moving to a higher AKS level and a new Legacy Society Member. All four Rotarians impressed with their humbleness and their commitment to The Rotary Foundation to do good in the world.
